Our client is the world’s leading supplier of training simulators to the civil aviation and defence markets.
They combine a 50 year British heritage with the strongest engineering team in the industry and manufacture products like door trainers, cabin service trainers, cabin emergency evacuation trainers, cabin simulators, full size mock ups and other across a variety of simulators catered towards various clients around the world. They are looking for a Mechanical Designer to join their design team.
The successful candidate should primarily have experience in surface modelling, composite design and manufacture and pattern and mould tooling design and ideally also have;
Role Purpose
The Design Engineer is responsible for undertaking of mechanical design activities against the assigned projects, in an efficient and effective manner.
Main Duties
• Support the Design Manager and the Design functions as required.
• Undertake design work against designated projects in an efficient and effective manner.
• Undertake work in accordance with the design office procedures and design and engineering standards.
• Maintain design data within the Business computer design systems.
• Prepare designs for authorisation and approval in accordance with design procedure.
• Adhere to engineering change procedures and processes.
• Undertake design calculations where required.
• Assist delivery of the design within the defined project schedule and cost budgets.
• Conduct design activities with due cognisance of manufacture and operation of products
• Ensure technical files are maintained throughout the life of the design process.
• Identify and manage the production of design documentation e.g., Drawings, Calculations, Bill of Materials,
• Parts Schedules, Specifications, Cutting Lists, and Reports
• Provide the necessary information and guidance to support manufacturing or other business operations
• Understand, adhere, and enact the design checking procedures
• Where required, act as the company’s technical interface to the client for technical liaison matters
• Attend project and progress reviews and provide appropriate input on progress and issues
• Provide the required level of post design support to business and customer
• Provide appropriate level of support to other departments where required
• Support production of estimates where required
• Keep all work management tools up to date where required
• Work in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy and statutory regulations.

• Keen and proactive individual

Skills and Experience
• 3-5 years of experience working in manufacturing (Aviation biased preferred but not necessary)
• Solidworks experience preferred (Autodesk Inventor a close second if needs be as the two are very similar)
• Experience with sheet metal, precision machined parts, composites & tooling desired
• Working with MRP system, creating Bill of Materials
• Design and development experience
• Basic Catia experience for model opening/exporting
• Working with bespoke machinery preferred, fast paced manufacturing environment
• Stress analysis experience (Solidworks static analysis)
• AutoCAD/Draftsight experience (2D layout / concept development for sales queries)
• Working with CE/UL compliant products
• Working with 3D printed parts
Qualifications
• A relevant engineering / technical qualification.
