The Client

Our client is experiencing an exciting period of growth providing systems within their specialised area of low carbon energy generation. They design, install, and maintain heating and power solutions for their clients and have an excellent industry reputation in this field. Due to their ongoing expansion, they are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to be based from their Blackburn office.

The Role and its Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Design Engineer for our client you will report to the Senior Design Engineer and will be producing fully detailed designs from initial drafts. The role will require extensive experience within the following areas:

• System design experience in form of schematics, calculations, equipment selection and drawings
• Assisting with tendering process and presentations of initial designs 
• Overseeing the junior staff on the team with relevence to allocating work effectively, reviewing documents produced and ensuring timescales are met on projects. 
• Supporting the Senior Engineer throughout projects timescales
• Awareness of commercial implications within the design field
• Meetings with clients 
• Knowledge of relevant equipment and systems 
• Liaising with outsourced design teams as well as internal staff
• Site investigations and survey works to ensure best outcome for works
• Legislation compliance

The Individual

Being time served in this area a successful candidate will come with experience in heating/cooling distribution, boiler/CHP systems and, although steam system design would be advantageous to an applicants CV, this would not be a deal breaker! You will be a confident communicator and be able to manage your workload effectively. 

Skills and Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent industry qualification
• Minimum of 35 years' experience in a design or design/build role
• AutoCAD 2D and NES/NBS proficiency
• Building regulation knowledge
